Switch 2 Upgrade Packs & Enhanced Editions
During the April 2nd Nintendo Direct, Nintendo introduced Upgrade Packs—a way to boost select existing Switch titles to take full advantage of Switch 2 hardware.
These Switch 2 Editions include improved resolution, performance, and sometimes new content.
Confirmed Switch 2 Upgrades:
- Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom
- Enhanced performance & visuals
- Free upgrades for Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack members
- Kirby and the Forgotten Land
- Adds the “Star-Crossed World” mini-campaign
- Paid upgrade required
- Super Mario Party Jamboree
- Adds “Jamboree TV” mode
- Paid upgrade available at launch
- Metroid Prime 4: Beyond
- Includes docked 4K/60fps and 1080p/120fps handheld
- Full version optimized for Switch 2
- Pokémon Legends: Z-A
- Built for Switch 2, confirmed to receive graphical and world enhancements
How Upgrades Work:
- Upgrade packs are add-ons for players who already own the base Switch versions, no prices have been released but taking into account the Nintendo tax. I would bet somewhere around $15-$20 USD
- Applies to physical and digital editions
Game Share, Game Chat & Social Features
Nintendo is finally catching up to modern online features (better late than never):
- Game Share: Share digital games with one trusted account for 14 days
- Local Share: Play co-op games across two consoles with only one copy
- Cross-Save/Play: Supported in Cyberpunk, Civ 7, FFVII, Hades II, and more
- Game Chat: Native voice chat, accessible via the new “C” button on controllers
How to Buy One – Nintendo’s Registration System
Nintendo has created a direct-purchase registration system to ease the launch rush.
Here’s how to register:
- Sign up now at Nintendo.com
- Priority given to:
- Nintendo Account holders
- Nintendo Switch Online (paid) members
- Users who opt in to share their usage data
Retailer preorders will still exist—but quantities will be limited and priority will clearly skew to registered Nintendo fans. April 9 preorders open at retailers. You can sign up at Best Buy to get more information on pre-orders as it becomes available.
Final Thoughts
The Nintendo Switch 2 looks to be a confident leap forward—offering smoother gameplay, sharper visuals, better social features, and a deeper launch lineup than any Nintendo console in history. Add in Game Share, real voice chat, and the new Upgrade Pack system, and it finally feels like Nintendo’s entering the modern console era—with their signature charm intact.
And yes… Silksong is real. Pokémon ZA is Switch 2-ready. And Metroid 4 looks bonkers.
